Arawak Mining Director
Serving as a director for a family-owned mining company in Guyana meant embracing a multifaceted role. The nature of this position brought with it titles and responsibilities rather than monetary compensation. Reflecting on my experiences in the rugged terrains often referred to as "the Bush" in Guyana, I acknowledge there were challenging days. However, adopting an owner's mindset, rather than viewing challenges through a familial lens, empowered me to shoulder greater responsibilities and gain a deeper understanding of the pressures my father faced. The hurdles encountered in the interior of Guyana were significant, yet they paled in comparison to the broader scope of project management.
Embracing every moment of this journey was transformative. It was in the thick of operations that I fully recognized my personal and professional stake in this endeavor. My commitment deepened, not just to the mining operations but to the legacy and continuation of our family's business. My enthusiasm for learning every facet of mining, coupled with applying my mechanical skills to maintain excavators, was invigorated by this experience.
This role underscored the importance of interdisciplinary studies and the application of a cognitive toolkit. Prior to taking on this challenge, I engaged in interdisciplinary studies that included a comprehensive cognitive toolkit inventory assessment. This educational foundation provided me with a diverse set of skills and insights, enabling me to navigate the complexities of managing a mining operation effectively. The integration of interdisciplinary approaches and cognitive strategies was pivotal in adapting to the multifarious demands of my position and contributing meaningfully to our family's legacy.
