Arawak Hotel & Georgetown office Managing
While in Guyana, I assisted my father's business and served as the director of mining operations. Additionally, I was tasked with overseeing the construction of our family's hotel. A significant learning moment occurred when I stepped into the hotel for the first time and had to assume the role of a foreman. This wasn't entirely new to me, as it bore similarities to managing an e-commerce website. However, this role profoundly impacted me, especially in developing empathy towards my workers. It challenged my personal biases and made me reconsider how I perceived their work ethic and my own impact within the community. This hotel, a legacy of my grandparents in Guyana, required me to wear multiple hats, teaching me the value of interdisciplinary skills. Fortunately, having taken a cornerstone class before arriving in Guyana equipped me with a conceptual toolkit, enabling me to tackle the enormous tasks at hand.
